My father in law used to be one of those "why does anyone need a gun like that" type of guys. Took him to the range with me and my wife and let him shoot our small collection of guns and now I feel within the next few months he'll be ready to make his first purchase.

I think taking him to the range so he can get a firsthand experience with various firearm platforms and educating him on the laws and mentalities of the gun control debate helped him be able to make a more better informed stance.

We have alot of new gun owners here too, when I meet them at the range, I always try to educate them about their gun.
Just yesterday, there was a 66 year old man, first time with a handgun, a 357 S&W revolver. He told me that it was his first time to shoot, so I walked him threw it to get him to at least fire the revolver.
He hit his steel plate only a few times, so before he left,. I told him I'm there most every Sunday, and to look for me.
I asked him, why he decided to own a handgun, he said people keep coming to his ranch and stealing things, and he's scared they might hurt him. So,
before he left the range, I told him to pick up some of the empty brass, and scatter it on the ground around the areas of his place where those people are coming threw, so they could see the brass, and know that he shoots a gun.
He said, thanks for the idea, and hope those people will stop conmming to his place.

SGT (Join to see) That's a pretty good idea. Especially for someone with land. I think that by being welcoming and willing to assist and educate new gun owners will go along way in not only getting them on the fence and coming over to our side, but getting them to recruit on the fence or anti gun friends and family

SSG (Join to see) I think so too, people like us have many to talk and teach. To tell you the truth. It's fun doing it.
