Although not a WWII movie, an afterlife movie called Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941) was remade into the 1978 movie, Heaven Can Wait. If you haven’t seen either of them, you and Dan may enjoy viewing and comparing them. They’re sappy too, but I enjoyed both of them more than A Guy Named Joe and Always.

I’ve seen both of these movies more than once, LT John Chang, so I guess I like them okay. However, despite the superior cast in each movie, both are kind of sappy.
What was interesting was the aircraft used in each movie. Although, the two aircraft were similar, they were different types of planes. In A Guy Named Joe, Spencer Tracy’s character flies a North American B-25 Mitchell (first photo). In Always, Richard Dreyfuss’ character is flying a Douglas A-26 Invader.

The flying scenes in Always were definitely what made the film!

I'll go along with the sappy but think that was intentional back then to get females to like them.
