I was in the first computer class in Indianapolis in my senior year 1978-79. Spent one class writing the simple program in FORTRAN IV, one class typing the punch cards, and one class running the program. It took many cards and many minutes running a simple program.
In 1985, I bought a Tandy 1000 with two 5-1/4 floppy drives with no hard drive and a 9in green monitor for $1000. Thought I was in high tech heaven.

I started with IBM 360 mod 30 in 1965 fresh out of high school.
Learned all the way from key punch to programming.
Then in 1981 we went to school for the AN/TPQ-36 -37 and as a technician we were not allowed to set up the machine with the same error allowance as the operators (70% passing), we had to set up the computer with 100 % ---no key stroke errors, no backstrokes and it was a timed set up (input the grid coordinates - elevation - azimuth -- etc.). Much fun , and all of us mechanics did just fine on our test. Then we could go on to learn to repair the system.
