The real shame is that our country does not put real veterans first. All of the Presidents from Truman through George H. W. Bush were veterans.

Should that be a requirement to be President?

LTC (Join to see) - Not necessarily, three of the crappiest presidents in my lifetime -- Eisenhower, Ford and Carter -- were veterans. Of the three I like the best -- Nixon, Clinton and Trump -- only one was a veteran and two were draft dodgers. What I would prefer is some sort of mandatory federal service -- either military or some other service like two years of picking up trash along the highways for weaselly little cowards such as that Kentucky Fried Chicken dude from Vermont (COL Harlan Sanders, or whatever the hell his name is). In defense of the Vietnam Era draft dodging cowards, as a Viet Nam veteran I'm glad they stayed home hiding under their beds, rather than letting their cowardice get good soldiers killed in combat. I feel that those of us who served in Viet Nam were far better off without the the likes of Clinton, Boy George, Trump, Biden, Sanders and thousands of other similar cowards. There! Did I manage to insult everyone? Oh wait, I forgot St. John the Kennedy, Johnson, Regan and Obama. In case you're curious, I couldn't stand them either.

SGT Robert Pryor - As the last of the Draft lottery, #126 but 1973, I never held it against those that took legal exemptions. The fact still remains that if you didn't hit your age period in that 1965-1969 period, your chances of being drafted without an exemption was pretty damn slim. I'm a lot more offended by McNamara's Morons than I am about someone taking a legal exemption. If Johnson had done what he should have done and declared a National Emergency and activated the Reserves/National Guard, all this would be a mote point and the Guard would have had to spend the next 20 years rebuilding a reputation that was not truly in the power to change.
Mr Clinton pushed that legal line with his draft exemptions a lot BTW.

Frankly, I don't give a damn. I chose to enlist and volunteer for duty in Vietnam. Most of us who served a tour of duty did. Just because we were bat guano crazy doesn't give us the right to vilify those who weren't. Now, show me evidence of Slow Joe persecuting those who went and then I will give a damn...
