"It’s also difficult to take the president at his word following a New York Times report that the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, told colleagues he had been told by the White House not to speak to the press about the virus without first clearing it with administration officials. It will be Pence, instead, who will control messaging around the escalating situation."

This was misreported by the New York Times and cleared up this morning in a press conference where Dr. Fauci commented this morning it was a complete misrepresentation of what is the case. He stated it was true he was asked to temporarily pause his public comments so the administration could get on the same sheet of music and not issue contradictory statements. It is not true whatsoever that everything flows through Pence and Dr. Fauci is still allowed to speak on any subject he wants.

Further much of the Huffington Post article is BS. I don't remember a single time in our past where flights to or from a specific country were halted by the U.S Government in response to a virus outbreak nor do I remember quarantine zones being setup. This is all a first in my lifetime. Additionally the administration has been praised repeatedly for it's quick and proactive response to the crisis. Last but not least, everyone that knows President Trump is a germophobe and has been one long before he became POTUS. The whole article would imply that suddenly he isn't which I personally think is adding to the BS of the general claims of this article.

Also at the Press Conference this morning Trump clarified and stated he did not say the virus was a hoax he stated he said that the Democrats implication his administration is not doing enough or is not being competent in handling the outbreak is a hoax and made up with no real evidence to support the claim. After reading this article and listening to the press conference this morning where it was rebutted point by point......... I would tend to agree with the perspective of the POTUS. This is a political hit job and misinformation about the virus is being used by the Democrats to scare people for political reasons.

According to my (understandably) non-scientific opinion, what I see is a whole lot of cases in other parts of the world, and only a handful here - most of them from one cruise ship. One can file that under dumb luck maybe, but given the spread in South Korea, Japan, Iran, and Italy, I'd say we are doing something right.
When the rubber meets the road, this is a local response issue with coordination and support from the feds through CDC and such. Customs and Port of Entry procedures belong to the feds as well. So far, I've seen them restrict travel from Wuhan and now Iran. People coming from Wuhan have been quarantined and treated if they were ill. Honestly, I don't know what else you could want the feds to do at this point.
Congress has been wrangling over whether $2.5 billion was enough money or whether we should move money from the Ebola Readiness Fund (inexplicably still budgeted for because Congress only does continuing resolutions). I just want the federal government to have a plan and stockpiles of necessary supplies on hand.
