I can only shake my head as this unfolds. It appears some folks are so polarized they act giddy about what is transpiring, when in fact it is the military service members who will face the consequences.

This was as lame a response as the Iranians could have and still say they responded. Trump has been clear that any attacks on US assets or the injury/death of US personal was unacceptable and they would pay dearly for it. Message received.

Iran launched 15 missiles at three Iraqi bases (not American assets). No one was hurt which appears to indicate they were not targeted well. They also did not use their best missiles for this response. They did not fire on US bases which were closer than the Iraqi bases. They tweeted that their retaliation was complete. Yes, they announced the end of their attack, how nice. 26% of their missiles failed too, nice.

They needed this for internal consumption but clearly they blinked. They do not want an escalation but needed a response, politically.

The do not want the response Trump promised them so they fired on non US assets/bases, they launched missiles that really did little damage and they announce he completion of their retaliation. I would say they have been as tepid as possible.

Could Trump still whack them just a lesser response? Yes he could. These missiles were fired from Iran into Iraq at locations with US forces. He would be 100% fully justified. Let's see what happens today. Iran is clearly looking for an off ramp.
