This is an exceptional way to invite terrorist attacks, a la the Press in France that decided to "poke a bit of fun" & mock Mohammed.
I utterly disagree w their beliefs, but I think it's somewhat egregious to entertain this behaviour.

I find it offensive when people mock or parody Jesus Christ. I can certainly understand why someone else would find it offensive to mock the major figure in their religion. Why wouldn't they be offended?

Why would "offense taking" make it ok to silence the cartoonists?
Anything that anyone says at any given time is going to offend someone somewhere. So by your implied statement nobody should ever be able to talk or draw or do anything really.
