SSG Robert Mark Odom Not sure what law this Chief is talking about. It is already illegal for domestic abusers to purchase, own, or posses firearms. NRA also initiated background checks for firearm purchases. Would like more info on the cop killer and his prior record to see if he was a prohibited possessor. Criminals usually do not follow gun laws. Taking firearms from law abiding citizens does not decrease gun violence. Just makes more victims.

I happen to agree with you but the frustration comes when the public fears the proliferation of guns especially in heavily populated urban areas. In your opinion what can be done to better address this issue? I'm looking for solutions.

SSG Robert Mark Odom Take off the kid gloves and start prosecuting current firearm law violations to the extent of the law. Mental illness is the direct linear relationship to most of the mass shooting/active shooters. Decades ago states closed most of their State Mental Hospitals. State funding never was replaced by private donors. There is a huge need for mental health facilities and funding. Some people need to be housed in facilities to keep the public safe. Just not a very popular subject, and fear of false accusations keep anything from being done.

SSG Robert Mark Odom - Fear based on what? Law abiding citizens of America that have the Constitutional Right to own and buy firearms? or the fear that someone will have a gun and use it against them illegally? Guess what, in order to maintain a free society, you cannot just legislate away honest peoples rights because you are in fear of your own safety! Period! End of story! You either have freedom, or you have socialism. Which do you prefer?
