Torpedo Squadron 8 (John Ford, 1942)

In one scene in the movie Midway, you saw a pilot in the water. Ensign Gay was the only survivor of Torpedo Squadron 8 who witnessed much of the sucess of the damage and destruction of 3 of the 4 Japanese Aircraft carriers while he was floating in the middle of the Japanese fleet during the sea battle. I never knew that Director John Ford had filmed them before the Battle of Midway. The 2019 Midway movie showed the Japanese and American leadership. I am a history buff and this was better explained in this movie compared to the 1975 movie.
