This is highly disturbing no matter who you are. I can't believe there are still OB/GYNs who believe in the torn hymen virginity myth. A torn hymen does not mean someone is no longer a virgin. Also virginity is not quite as simple as it seems. That's because sex means different things to different people, so virginity can mean different things, too. A lot of people think that having penis-in-vagina sex for the first time is how you lose your virginity.
Also it's very disturbing for ANY parent to do this to their adult child - or even a teenage child. I realize at some point my daughter will need to be able to communicate with her doctor on her own because someday I have no legal bearing on her medical decisions. I hope I can set her up for success to handle herself - especially since she is a transplant recipient and has far more to deal with than average people.
