This incident reminds me of a certain two-bit actor who was involved in an incident in Chicago trying to implicate supporters of President Trump

Young adults may well be generally ignorant of current events [outside of their interests] . That does not seem different than previous generations IMHO.
Escalation in violence can be expected to increase through the 2020 election. Some impromptu and some premeditated IMHO.
