I have a feeling that these soldiers that spoke to the press may end up in deep kimchi, PO1 William "Chip" Nagel. The Army will eventually find out who spoke to the press and take action, I’m sure. If these soldiers had a problem with the chain of command, then they should have visited the IG.
If it turns out the chain of command is fibbing, they may have their own set of problems with which to deal.

A dose of cover-up by the Army caught troops by surprise and these troops reacted by disputing the Army's cover-up. Proud of these troops for facing wrong to make right; Amen.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel “The DZ is one-half the size of a football field?” Does that cause any heart burn? PVT James Strait

A DZ of that size sounds more like a HALO target area to me.

I’ve never jumped at Camp Shelby, CSM Charles Hayden, so I can’t confirm one way or the other as to the size of the DZ. However, it seems almost inconceivable that such a small DZ would be considered adequate for that many jumpers for a day jump, much less a night jump!

There are minimum sized drop zone requirements for the type of jump, aircraft, whether or not they have door bundles, etc. There is a formula you get tested on in Pathfinder School. 100 yards isn’t even remotely close to the size needed if they were trying to do a Mass Tac jump.

A DZ half the size of a football field? Not hardly. The DZ was the C17 assault strip at Shelby. The strip is the only 3500 foot strip in the south east. C17’s are always doing touch and go.

The DZ was bigger than that strip. Find Shelby on google maps. You can’t miss it. It’s just north east of cantonment and 1km or less south of hwy 98.

I’m a mech guy, so I can’t begin to fathom what went wrong. I know there were some early Christmas tree ornaments that night.
