Rte 40, one of America's first transcontinental highways is named in Maryland after Pulaski. It sort of figures inasmuch as Maryland was founded as a refuge for Catholics (although that wasn't the "official" reason Lord Baltimore was granted the charter) and named for Queen Mary. There's an interesting story associated with the building of the Pulaski Highway concerning a man who made so much money selling inferior supplies to the state at inflated prices, and then selling them more when the highway began deteriorating. Maybe I'll take time to tell it some day. Not today. Some other day...

We have a town named Pulaski just a few miles north of us. Now I know about its namesake.
