If this goes through, anyone may anonymously finger you and you will be prevented from facing your accuser due to "safety concerns". The ability to face your accuser would of course cut back on those who would use the law for their own ends.

I do agree with the article and another concern I have is activist doctors, who are against guns, using red flag laws to prevent people from owning firearms for no legitimate reason.

Additionally, people with health/mental issues might be less inclined to seek help, fearing they might have their guns taken away. This could in turn prevent them from getting the help they need and eventually lead to more violent behavior.

Still, I think laws like this one needs to researched and considered. Mental health has been a common denominator for many of these gunmen.

Very good write up. We have a problem in our society right now that people think the only way to deal with disagreements with others is through violence. This is a problem that is happening on all sides of the political spectrum, all races, religions etc. I am not sure how to get back to where we were when people valued human life more but I also will not support anyone who is trying to infringe on my rights. These red flag laws are very poorly written and sound more like stripping people of their rights without due process. If someone is going bat shit crazy by all means have them adjudicated as a threat to themselves or others and then take their firearms until it can be determined they are sane. The laws as written make it too easy for false reporting and revenge reporting. They need constitutional protections for the accused put in. This seems more and more like instances where people’s rights could be stripped because others in society don’t like their world views. When people can be punished for thoughts and not actions that is a horrible thing. It is rapidly approaching tyranny if that were to happen. Who among us is qualified to be a member of the “thought police”?
