With many of those organizations, the question becomes "Who is eligible to join them?" American Legion only takes Veterans who have served during certain "eras", but what years qualify? DAV only takes "disabled" Veterans, but does a person have to be "rated" before they can join? Getting "rated" may take many years, but those Veterans need help NOW. I am a Vietnam-era Veteran, but I can't join VFW because I don't have a "'Nan-service' ribbon".
It would be helpful if there was a resource that spells out the eligibility-requirements for EVERY Veteran's organization. The American Legion is working on getting our Charter changed to allow us to take members from all years since the beginning of WWII, otherwise AL is going to die from old-age, because we are losing more members to death than we are gaining.

I understand your frustrations. If you click on the links, you can read the qualifications on the website. On the meantime, I’ll start compiling a document to share on my website when it is launched.
