Say what you like, but the FBI hasn't had a decent director since Hoover. Hoover had his faults, but to him the Bureau was his family, and he maintained discipline in the ranks and took care of his "associates", as he called all of the employees of the Bu. When he died, his Bureau was picked over by the Washington vultures. Now, its reputation is suffering from being run by self gratifying political hacks. L. Patrick Gray III was known throughout the Bureau as "L. Patrick the Turd" during his short stint. My dad used to say, during the years that Louis Freeh was director, that the Bureau would be better off is it was "Louis Free." Politicians, lawyers and judges are poor leaders for what was once the most effective investigative agency in the world. I hope Pres. Trump can find a new director who is a true leader in the Hoover mold.
