This one's always interested me... my personal theory is that one fell out attempting to rescue the other, possibly after the latter attempted work outside the gondola.
I never knew L-8 was later re-christened as the Goodyear Blimp "America"... or that I had stood on it's flight deck in the Naval Aviation Museum.
