A 32 year old Soldier, was visiting the Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, and plummeted about 70 feet into the the Kīlauea caldera, a volcano not currently erupting, according to the National Park Service. Apparently the Soldier climbed over the safety railing at the crater, to take a closer look. Rescuers had to pull the Soldier out on a litter, with the assistance of a helicopter rescue team. The volcano is considered active, but not erupting as it did last year.
