That is an amazing Picture. When it appeared in all the newspapers in the US, The secretary of the Navy James Forrestal said that picture insures the Marines for another 500 years. After WWII President Truman called the Marines "Sea going Bellhops". The Secretary of Defiance tried to intergrate the Marines with the Army. Stiff opposition from Congress and Marine veterans stopped the attempt. Semper fi.

The Marines and the Navy got it right in preparation for the future war (WWII). The Marines were almost disbanded by the Navy, but the Marines said they could perform amphibious landings. They performed a lot of amphibious landings in the Pacific.
