Just to use one example of Trump's lies about the usefulness of a wall, 90% of illegal drugs do NOT cross the southern border in remote areas with no barriers. They come through established ports of entry, like airports and official border crossings. So a wall will have absolutely no effect on that drug traffic. It's simply a lie. The democrats are more than willing to spend money on beefing up the ports of entries to help catch more of these drugs with things like more agents and advanced technology. They just dont want to use that money on a useless wall in the boonies.
But the letter the democrats wrote wasnt about the effectiveness of the wall per se. It's about the legal precedence of a president (any president) having the power to declare a national emergency on anything he wants and divert money to that issue without congressional approval. That undercuts the entire division of powers between the branches. Congress controls the purse.
There is no national emergency on our southern border. Illegal crossings have been declining for years. They are about half of what they wre 10 years ago. It's another Trump lie. If the level of crossings today is an emergency requiring such drastic actions, why wasnt it an emergency 2 years ago? Why didnt Trump declare an emergency then? Why didnt his budget requests the last two years include 5 billion for a wall? If something wasnt an emergency 2 years ago, and the problem is less today than two years ago, its not an emergency. Its just a policy that you cant get the representatives of the American people to vote to pass.
A president not getting congressional approval for a desired policy is not a national emergency. He may view it as a political emergency, but Its no national emergency.
The below link should help you get the facts.

MAJ Montgomery Granger - well, that as quite a rant. I'll disregard all but the little bit that actually had to do with the issue of whether the wall will make a big difference in drug flow, as Trump claims. Here is a source you might (but might not)believe. You have to dig through it to find specific info about transportation of the various drugs, but here's a head start for you from the heroin section. It's the DOJ DEA 2018 National Drug Threat Assessment. You can continue to deny the facts, but it just makes your argument even more unsupported.
"A small percentage of all heroin seized by CBP along the land border was between Ports of Entry (POEs). The CBP San Diego sector reported the greatest amount of heroin seized of all non- POE land border seizures, followed by the Tucson sector.
Mexican TCOs control the movement of heroin that enters the United States across the SWB, until it reaches its destination
in cities all over the United States. The majority of the flow is through POVs entering the United States at legal ports
of entry, followed by tractor-trailers, where the heroin is co-mingled with legal goods (see Figure 27). Body carriers represent a smaller percentage of heroin movement..."

and here is the info from the Fentanyl section. See the pattern? Vehicles at POEs. That's Port of Entry.
"Fentanyl trafficked by Mexican TCOs is typically in multi-kilogram quantities and is combined with adulterants in clandestine facilities in Mexico prior to it moving into the SWB region. Mexican TCOs most commonly smuggle the multi-kilogram loads of fentanyl concealed in POVs before trafficking the drugs through SWB POEs."

And where are the anecdotals from the area of the Rio Grande Valley where there are no barriers, no ports of entry, no anything? How much comes through there?

SPC Mark Huddleston 2018 DEA threat assessment. DEA states a small percentage is seized between POE along the land border.

One Political Ideology requires its supporters to be inter-dependent upon government. More demands upon the government results in an ever expanding government. The government never solves anything so it is a self licking ice cream cone. Suckubus flavor.

Ahhh...now we see your true colors. I knew it would only take a little bit of time before we start hearing about how everyone who isn't just like you is just a whiner and needs to get over it. I really don't want to continue discussing this with you. Your'e toxic and bigoted and your comments pretty much prove that.

If President Trump put the Navy Seabees and the Army Combat Engineers on the Wall they would finish it in no time.
