It is a little more than that. He was hospitalized and some people trashed his home while he was in the hospital. The VA can help with some of the issues, but not all of them. He is old and living on fixed income so he can't get much assistance from other places. The VA will help with the some minor adaptation of the house. They aren't going to help with the broken windows, stolen wiring, mold and the hole in the roof. I have put his family in contact with VA, DAV, VFW and AFL.

I follow...trust me, get one of the NOVA guys for him anyway, of you can, I know about the whole BA specially adapted housing (SAH) thing, also, he needs to be worked up to see if he's approvable for aid and attendance (A&A), as well as either a service- or non-service-conmected pension (the latter is generally termed an NSC or low-income pension)...then, too, all state have elderly organizations as part of government, same for the territories, they exist, trust me...he needs a social worker from a reputable group like Catholic Charities to go in and do an assessment...all municipalities have free legal svcs for the indigent, elderly, disabled, incompetent, which I realize he's not, of the latter, I'm !merely explaining...we already did all that stuff for my mother in law, who's 96, my wife's Dad, stepdad, and brother, had all been in, the Dad Army, the stepdad Navy, the brother USAF, the Dad and stepdad had been combat, the Dad WW2, the stepdad WW2/Korea, the brother noncombat during Vietnam assigned to Cold War serious stuff with SAC...we had to get Mom onto the BA rolls, VW goes by the last marriage, we had a VA regional office (VARO) staff member drive over, it's little known that VA, NOT vet groups, actual badged VA do in fact do home visits, we needed Congressional and VA Central Ofc (VACO) help to get it, however, one of their guys, a retired Army SFC and minister spent 4 hrs with us by Mom writing her up, so I KNOW, POSITIVELY, that it can be done, there's also a Federal program for the elderly called Senior Companions, I've seen their site, it's a Federal thing, as I'd said, where neighborhood elderly 55 or over, would visit him, however, also, social work, maybe from Catholic Charities, which we were referred to by state and county for Mom, can also go over and assess him for state Medicaidz, which is handled by counties, or local municipalities, typically, we got Mom Medicaid aides 7 days a week, from 1 pm to 8 pm typically, they vary in caliber, however, it's something he's entitled to, we couldn't get her A&A and an NSC pension from VA, all three relatives hadn't been svc connected, also, there was income stuff, and VA has new so called look back rules, however, Catholic Charities was VERY thorough we went to their supervisors, those supervisors got the local charity legal svc to actally speak with us, trust me, social workers are THE right ones for stuff like this, he'd also need a combined VA-Medicaid trust, all localities have such trust groups, all social workers know how they're handled, VA trusts are different from Medicaid trusts, and note, I'm saying Medicaid, NOT Medicare, hell need coordination of bemefts (COB), which social workers also do, I entirely fathom the problem, trust me, if I can suggest more, I'm here, if I can suggest stuff, just ask, OK?
