I'm not buying into the Admiral's premise. When you look at the rifts between President Trump and military leaders such as Mattis, McMaster, et al, there is a common thread, an obvious one too. Their disputes were based on diplomacy rather than military strategy (or any supposed failure on the part of the President to be "handled" by them). All were annoyed with President Trump's dismissive attitude towards alliances and openly criticized the President on this issue. Well, alliances are the purview of the State Department, not the Pentagon. And the alliances that President Trump has been attacking (and these generals defending) are poor ones at best. They need some shaking up (as President Trump has been doing). So, while I respect every one of the generals mentioned for their military accomplishments and their service to the nation, I don't admire them as diplomats. I sure as hell wouldn't want any as Secretary of State and if they can't accept that judgment, they shouldn't let the door hit them in the ass as they depart...
