The Pride of the UK's Hood was a WW1 Battlecruiser while Bismark was a new Pocket Battleship with likely thicker armour. Great Gunnery and newer analogue computers on the German Battleship.

She was still arguing about Hitlers "flee" order. By that time, Prince Eugen sank Hood.

The jury is still out on this one. We don't know if it hit the main gun magazine or not. Conflicting stories and the wreckage is too damaged to tell. We don't know if her own torpedoes we're cooked off or her side and she'll magazine also exploded. We don't know if the fuel tanks ruptured and exploded as well.

SCPO Morris Ramsey correction , 5 inch gun magazine may half cooked off. There are different descriptions of thence spewing Flame not just the proximity of the main gun magazines.

The Hood was outdated by then, plus being a battle cruiser she had speed but poor armour. Luck played a part as she was hit is just the right place, but with less armour than the Bismark I don't think she would have lasted long. The Bismark was new, had the lasted in gunnery and heavily armoured. When the British finally caught her is was a lucky torpedo from an outdated biplane that prevented her from being able to turn that allowed the Brits to catch her. Then it took an extremely large amount of ordnance to sink her.

She was capable and had seen successful combat months earlier with Admirals Cunningham and Sutherland. She had the best crew, was the fastest ship, etc. Bismarck had no chance. Luckily for Bis, her escort, Prince Eugen got to Hood first.
