Sure wish I could take a walk through her. But, what about this?

15 Subs Kept Out of Service: 177 Months Of Drydock Backups
WASHINGTON: A massive maintenance backlog has idled 15 nuclear-powered attack submarines for a total of 177 months, and the Navy’s plan to mitigate the problem is jeopardized by budget gridlock, two House Armed Services Committee staffers told Breaking Defense. That is almost 15 submarine-years, the equivalent of taking a boat from the 2018 budget and not adding it back until 2033. While only Congress can pass a budget and lift caps on...

Most of the floating drydocks in our era were WW II vintage and they have not replaced them. We had around 8 at one time. Now, the subforce is down to 2 floaters, Arco and Shippingport. Yes, our numbers have decreased, but our resources have decreased even more. I will say that both of the docks (Oak Ridge and Richland) I was on are both still in service, just not in the US Navy.

CWO3 Randy Weston I’m concerned that our national security will be threatened by Pelosi and Schumer that are pure political animals. Our gains and plans for rebuilding our military will fall by the wayside.

MCPO Roger Collins And it is simple things like the drydocks that will contribute to their underlying intent to weaken the military. Our Admirals and Generals need to pay attention to the little things that will get eroded and thus, decrease our capability. Within the current environment, the boats are coming back to major relevance. We just need to make sure we can continue to support them.
I also have to look at the support that was available when we were there. Many sub tenders, drydocks, IMA's, other boats, lol. Most of that network has been degraded/disposed of and we are left with minimal resources to care for what we do have.

CWO3 Randy Weston Nearly a trillion dollar farm bill, which will primarily benefit huge agribusiness. And we can’t afford to maintain our first line of defense and a small $5B funding to protect our border. Shameful!

I mean, we all know the sub is impressive, but damn...that transfer system. That's some engineering right there.

Yes it is SN Greg Wright . However, Electric Boat has been using this system since they launched the USS Ohio SSBN 727 (1979). They used to roll the boats down the rails but the Ohio class was too big and if launched in the same manner would end up somewhere in downtown New London, lol. So they came up with this system.
