Thank you, my friend SGT (Join to see) for sharing the music video of Billy Paul performing the soulful ballad "Me And Mrs. Jones" on Don Cornelius's Soul Train in 1972. This beautiful sounding song made adultery more mainstream.
I remember listening to this song in 1972 as I was a paid collector soliciting donations to American Rescue Workers in the Philadelphia suburbs and also as minimum wage worker in car wash.
In turns out the manager who drove us around was corrupt and kept a lot of the donations for himself.
Thank you for mentioning me, my friend SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL
"Me And Mrs. Jones"
Lyrics
"Me and Mrs Jones
We got a thing going on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now
We meet every day at the same cafe
6:30
I know, I know she'll be there
Holding hands, making all kinds of plans
While the jukebox plays our favorite song
Me and Mrs, Mrs. Jones
Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones
We got a thing going on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now
We gotta be extra careful
That we don't build our hopes up too high
Cause she's got her own obligations
And so, and so do I
Me and Mrs, Mrs. Jones
Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones
We got a thing going on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now
Well, it's time for us to be leaving
It hurts so much, it hurts so much inside
Now she'll go her way
And I'll go mine
But tomorrow we'll meet the same place
The same time
Me and Mrs, Mrs. Jones
Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones
We got a thing going on
We gotta be extra careful
We can't afford to build our hopes up too high
I wanna meet and talk to you
At the same place, the same cafe, the same time
And we're gonna hold hands like we used to
We gonna talk it over, talk it over
We know, they know
And you know and I know it was wrong
But I'm thinking strong
We gotta let 'em know now
That we got a thing going on, a thing going on"

There was a restaurant I went ghat had jukeboxes at the tables.. the owner of the restaurant owned the machines and demonstrated control over the music content. He went through snd picked out songs to block. They were on there but were blocked from playing. Me and Mrs Paul were on that list.. The company that provided the music brought up the contract he signed.. Mr.k_____ cited the constitution. So the music leading co. Took him to court.. a substitute magistrate was filling in and sided with the restaurant owner.. The leasing co. Appealed.. the list was long and the case wouldn’t come up for 6 years. At 5 years, 11 mo. And 29 days the restaurant ceased to exist. The restaurant owner to his 5 mil and moved to Aruba. It was reported he made sure the lease company got their note on that date from the restaurant owner’s attorney. So I surmise the appeal was moot . Law is not my forte so that was my (H.O)..

I meant to mention i had been there on leave after returning from o’seas.
I was in Vietnam al of’72. Mom sent me the local paper(a weekly) So I recieved it almost a week late. It was 4th Class Mail ... so bottom of priority list. The restaurant had got bought out by the Ford dealership next door. Some Dealership employees believed the autohauler bought the property so it be easier to deliver the new vehicles .. some thought FOMOCO
purchased the propery.. I know sometimes it was hard to get a seat.. when I returned in ‘74..
The restaurant was only around another 1.5 years..

PO3 Bob McCord when that song came out in ‘72 I was at Tan Sohn Nhut AB. Mom sent me newspapers from home and a article told of the legal fight the restaurant owner had with the music lease co. over what the owner was blocking as objectionable music.. the owner had 6 others songs. He thought we’re not fit for families ears....”My machine, if you don’t like, i’ll Get a lease elsewhere.... guy took him to court. The owner won... the guy appealed.. the appeal suit was tied up for 6 years..
