These days VOA is probably one of the top real news locations. Its a long way from the past - and its because they have some seriously great journalists to cover the news and events and stories. Or problem is that they keep getting budget cuts. I knew the whole shift to the Pacific was a failure from the start when not only did we not increase our embassy staffs in SE and S Asia - but we took out VOA staff instead of increasing them the way we really needed to! One guy covering 13 countries..... that is sign of not getting the formula right. But what great folks VOA does have - and we really need more of them. My hat is off for Steve Herman who covers the White House. His are the most fair and accurate of questions - and on subjects the rest of the room often are not looking at. Also - Steve is USCG Reserve officer - with a stack of years overseas.
