It really is a major problem. In Glacier NP last year,we were lucky enough to get a parking space at Logans Pass. We hiked up and over where we found a lake, saw mountain goats and Dahl Sheep. Again we were lucky.
We were able to find parking, early in the day in Arcbes and Canyonlands, but backcountry 4×4 adventures of both, and a river trip on the Colorado through Canyonlands were the highlights. On those we saw things that most visitors don't.

Ditto about Glacier. We got to Apgar a few minutes late and ended up having to wait 2 hours for a shuttle to Logan. I enjoy doing things that the average person might not - hiking 10 miles to Iceberg lake, or the Hi-Line Trail - so the crowds weren't so bad. We did a lot of really early mornings to avoid the traffic.

It is definitely a problem...I took my wife to Vegas last year for our anniversary. We took a trip out to the Grand Canyon. Those idiots were standing on the edge of the canyon taking selfies. Iam not just talking about one almost eveyone that was there was doing it except me and my wife and we thought we were the only sane ones there. Albert Einstein said the only difference between genius and stupidity is Genius has its limits.
