Thank you, my friend Capt Jeff S. for making us aware that 39-year-old Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher is currently locked away in a San Diego brig for alleged war crimes. This is a challenging article to read.
1. "In May of 2017, Gallagher allegedly killed a wounded ISIS fighter -reportedly in his teens- with a knife as other medics tried to save the young terrorist’s life. Shortly after, members of the platoon posed with the body, and Chief Gallagher performed a reenlistment ceremony over the combatant’s corpse."
2. "As the Navy investigates, many SEALs who opted not to speak out on the matter may find themselves in legal hot water, with one Lieutenant already facing charges."
3. Warriors who engage in close combat over long periods of time are a special breed. Dark humor is something many service members appreciate and enjoy. Tough leadership may not be appreciated by subordinates. It seems this chief may have crossed the line in his treatment of subordinates at times. I would prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Article 32 hearing Prosecutor Chris Czaplak seems to be zealous as he paints Edward Gallagher as a monster.
1. Posing with dead enemy combatant bodies is nothing new and has been going on for millennia. The modern age of instant photographs enables armchair warriors to see images which may disturb them.
2. This article reminds me of the Court Martial of my Army Ranger son in 2011. He was cleared by the Article 32 Investigation at Fort Benning. The post commander wanted it brought to Court Martial anyway. Two seasoned JAG Majors were brought in to serve as prosecutors and a junior JAG Captain was designated as his defense attorney, His ranger buddies were tagged to be bailiff and other court duties and could not testify on his behalf. He was painted as monster and sentenced to 35 years for crimes in Columbus, Georgia.

My question is...what the hell is going on with the SEAL's lately? They've got some significant personnel issues, between guys like this and the killing of the Army SF Soldier...jeez...

SGT (Join to see) - Agree 100%, 20 years ago you could meet a SEAL and never know it, now they'll make sure to tell you how bad ass they are, and then write a book about the things they've seen/done...or just make up.

SGT (Join to see) - As usual I agree. I think it goes back to early 2000's when NSW Pre BUD/S and they created an easer path, as before most SEAL'S would have been in the Fleet and had a Navy rate before they attempted to become a SEAL. In the 70's through 80's most real deal SEAL'S,were in their early to mid 30's, because they served in the Fleet before they could cross rate and most were E-5 and E-6's. This made them mature and professional. As of 2000 they would take them in under a NSW Contract then Pre BUD/S as it is today. So you have a 18-20 something, that goes to Navy Bootcamp and from there he will never see or understand what the real Fleet is, and will go straight to a team on in his mind the best of the best, and the ego just keeps getting bigger.

CPO (Join to see) - this passage from the article is insane. “Gallagher’s actions were so disturbing to some teammates that they tampered with his sniper rifle’s accuracy and fired warning shots to hamper the chief’s rising kill count.”
Think about that. His teammates admitted that they f*cked with his weapon and shot off some spoilers. Good lord, what if they got into a real tic and actually needed some accuracy from their sniper? Simply admitting that stuff is probably career ending in the teams for those guys, because holy sh*t, who will ever want to fight beside a guy who will tamper with your rifle, for any reason? The fact that they admitted doing it is fairly damning.
What’s really crazy is we’re only seeing the bare minimum. I’d be willing to bet that the file for this case is about 6 weeks long. And we’re only getting to see 41 seconds of it. I just hope others out there are watching and learn from his (alleged) mistakes.

Maybe he lost buddies in the past and this was an evil joy moment but other terrorists will use this war crime or desecration as a recruiting tool.
