Having spent 10 years of my military career outside the US, my family and I are aware of just how exceptional America really is. It is easy to forget this with the 24/7 news cycle of doom and gloom and the constant screaming and shouting by the political hactivists, but, if you take the time to step back and look at our Great Nation, it is easy to see. We need to remember this everday and thank God for his Grace that we have the opportunity to live and work in the greatest nation on Earth.

We clearly don't appreciate what we have. We did 14 years outside the US and on every trip home I wanted to kiss the ground.

Understand, completely. Only had the opportunity to visit the Philippines on TDY, but it is a beautiful country and I love the people. We were stationed in Guam for two years and loved it.

Col Carl Whicker - It is shame we don't have huge bases in the PI. It would be a great logistical hub.

I agree completely. Lots of capability lost when we left the Philippines. It has been good for Guam, though, since 13th AF had to leave Clark AB and move to Guam. After almost pulling out completely, the Navy and Marines are back in Guam which is great for the local economy. Political situation in the PI as well as here at home makes it hard to justify bases in the PI, but we lost a lot of capability when we left.

Col Carl Whicker - The politically elite Filipinos rage that US presence is colonialism. Their memory is short as we liberated the Philippines in WWII and gave the country back to them.
