Thank you my friend SGT (Join to see) for reminding us that on October 14, 1944 Field Marshal Erwin Rommel said goodbye to his wife and family committed suicide by poison in an official car of the Third Reich.
Because of his demonstration of leadership in WWI, France 1940, North Africa 1940 to 1942, designing the Western Wall defenses of Normandy and his leadership in delaying the allies and counterattacking; Erwin Rommel was considered a hero to most of the Germans as well as a formidable opponent to many allied Generals and Field Marshals.
He was given an elaborate state funeral with full military honor even though he was part of a conspiracy to kill Adolph Hitler.
I read Attacks decades ago and highly recommend it.

Erwin Rommel was the toast of the Nazi Party and a German national treasure. That all changed when he tried to assassinate Hitler.

Hitler was crazy (thank goodness) and he blamed his generals for his own bad decisions. If he had left them alone to fight the war it would have lasted a lot longer.

I heard in some battles, Hitler reserved the right to use Tanks and the Germans could not use them until he woke up.

Initially no, but once Hitler felt the army had betrayed him at Stalingrad, he took total control and had the "no retreat" orders, tank allocations, etc. For some, it was a restriction and for others it was a life saver. Six of one, half a dozen of the other...
