If they don't abandon it like Homestead AFB.

Lt Col Charlie Brown - They will clean it up but I think they would be prudent to just move the mission down the road to Eglin...plenty of real estate.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth - I don't know that the congressional card dealers would let another FW and the pilot training all move to Eglin, although there is enough room as you say.

Looks like the Post Commander made the right call in evacuating the base. I am curious how they will settle the evacuation expenses.

Traditionally it comes out of operating budgets. Evacuated aircraft due to weather many times in my career and always conducted some type of meaningful training enroute to evacuation base for just that reason.

MAJ Ken Landgren We evacuated 4 times in ten years at Eglin AFB. We filled out Travel Vouchers and then claims at legal for the house hold goods damage (we lived on base) and lost food. Pretty routine for the Gulf Coast states and the east Coast as well I'm sure.

Reminiscent of Homestead AFB after Andrew, it never really recovered, but did come back as an Air Reserve Base. Think Tyndall will fare a little better due to its missions.
