When I was in Vietnam (I Corps), the USS NEW JERSEY was offshore firing missions. We could hear the big rounds going over - they sounded like freight trains - and we were told that one HE round could wipe out a grid square. The Marine still wish the Navy had big gun ships to support shore operations.
