Interestingly enough, SGT (Join to see), the Sturmgewehr (StG) 44 is U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Don "Wardaddy" Collier's (Brad Pitt) personal weapon of choice in the 2014 movie "Fury". The one thing about movies, I don't recall any commander ever when dispersing troops to strategic positions screaming out "GO GO GO GO". They might use the word once then move on to the next situation. Maybe they do it these days, but to me it's like saying the troops don't know their job.

Good article. Thanks for sharing The StG/44 was the worlds first “assault rifle” and a fantastic weapon.
But I would disagree with the author’s contention that it was the inspiration for the AR-15. There is no historical evidence that Eugene Stoner was inspired by the StG/44 when he created the AR-15. The AR-15 was a byproduct of the AR-10 (7.62 mm NATO). The AR-10 was submitted to the Army for competition for the replacement of the M-1 Garand as the new Army requirement was for a magazine fed rifle. But it lost out to the M-14.
Stoner then created the AR-15 as a smaller caliber version of the AR-15 in 5.56 mm.
