Why do you say "fake news?" Did he or did he not say what the headline states? If he did, then that is not fake news.

#Newsthatisn'tnew
Statements have been made to this effect over a year ago.
Information gathering is not new, nor unique to the Trump campaign. See Hillary contracting a foreign agent through cutout law firms to develop a dossier or random randomness for use (or not) in the campaign.

What is at issue here is credibility, and that is what opponents of the Trump administration is attacking. President Trump himself as well as his surrogates have been unhelpful to their cause by constantly changing their story.

SPC Martin Wiesiolek - "not ever from a foreign power"
See Michael Steele and what his sources were.
That is just the most recent example.
We could trot out Bill Clinton's questionable associations with China, or Ted Kennedy's associations with Russia, too/
I'm certain that there are many more.

Sometimes I wonder if the Trump team can't keep it's story straight, or if it is purposeful to have many red herrings floating at the same time to obfuscate the real story that gets lost in the shuffle. I think it is the former, but I can't rule out the latter, either.

SPC Martin Wiesiolek - There is an awful lot of misdirection going on here, and since it is close to what I do for a living in the Army, I recognize it as such.
Trump was not unique in meeting with foreign entities for opposition research, though.
Hillary did it too. Her situation was arguably worse, as it was paid for by the candidate's campaign funds.
