Either way, Chaplain Squires was done being a military Chaplain. If he presided over the retreat, he would lose the endorsement of the Southern Baptist Council and no longer meet the military's requirement; or he refuses to preside over the retreat, makes a reasonable accommodation and the social justice warriors want his head on a pike.

I also think your failure to weigh in, while you ask others to do so is less than exemplary.

I read a few and it’s not clear if the chaplain rescheduled the event before or after she made the EO complaint. If it were me and my wife, and he explained his affiliation and said since he was running it, we could not go but then rescheduled with another chaplain at a later time or got us signed up for another retreat, then I would be cool with it. I wouldn’t want to go anyway as it would be awkward.
One article I read said the investigation revealed that he rescheduled it AFTER the EO complaint was filed. So he said she couldn’t go and we’ll let you know when one comes up that you can go to. It just seems like he was back peddling a bit.

This is why I don’t want to go to a religious sponsored marriage retreat. Too much BS to deal with. There are other such things through MWR and MFLC that offer more inclusive retreats.

This is something that was addressed when DADT was repealed. As long as the chaplain can provide an equal alternative (I.e. maybe another chaplain is leading a retreat next quarter who is ok with same-sex marriage) then he allowed to deny participation based on his sponsoring faith body. The couple is also entitled to a marriage retreat. Both need to be accommodated.
