The Democratic Party left me behind — and I'm not alone

I think this opinion piece articulates why Pres. Trump won the election. Establishment Republicans and Evangelical Conservatives all jumped ship in the primaries and then “life-long” Democrats in the general election switched “sides” in order for Donald Trump to become president. That’s the problem, the “labels” of the past just don’t fit anymore. Based on her article, it seems that she identified my voting methodology. Dems want you to vote with them on a full range of topics without straying…the Repubs want the same. Most of us flow in and out of “liberal” and “conservative” platforms and believe that “one size” doesn’t fit all. I never thought of it in these terms, but Ms. Prabhu nailed it when she stated that “Trump voters” voted against the establishment. For me, it had nothing to do with male/female, black/white, straight/gay, conservative/progressive, pro-choice/pro-life, etc…etc. Hopefully, both parties stop their hardline positions and work for all of us in the middle. (I’m not holding my breath) However, at this point, the left is crashing down further to the left and the right is unsure which way to go.
