It may seem trivial to some, especially within the civilian community, but to those of us that bled in the sand and buried brothers and sisters. This is is a long overdue memorial. Desert Storm ended on 28 Feb 1991 making this 25 years overdue. I, for one plan to attend the opening of this memorial if at all possible. I lost my best friend from high school there.

Thank you to those who have read and commented on this humble addition to the chiefs post. I reread my words after posting them and felt an echo to the words spoken by the character Dilios in 300. "it resonates with me and bring tears of remembrance to my eyes when I hear it even now, to this day. The speech on St. Crispin's Day has a similar effect. But as to the words of Dilios. I give you the quote.
"Dilios : And so my king died, and my brothers died, barely a year ago. Long I pondered my king's cryptic talk of victory. Time has proven him wise, for from free Greek to free Greek, the word was spread that bold Leonidas and his three hundred, so far from home, laid down their lives. Not just for Sparta, but for all Greece and the promise this country holds."
If you change the references to states and countries the words still ring true. Our brothers and sisters will still yet live as long as we never allow the protected to forget. I now I never shall. I will always remember the more than 300 we lost and hope they are holding a drink for me in Fiddlers Green.

Well... depending on where you were during Desert Storm, the ceasefire wasn’t relayed to most of us until March 4th. That’s when I along with the rest is the troops at KKMC received word. I remember mainly because we lost an F16 and it’s pilot that night. I remember talking to him the day before about how he couldn’t wait to see his wife and kid... not stepping on anyone’s toes, but the Internet doesn’t have the correct dates. January 18- February 28??? I remember being there a whole lot longer than that. 6 months to be exact. Some where there since 89, and some didn’t leave until 93-95... War is always over in short time for those who don’t have to fight and those who die ...
