I read this story in my news feed a short while ago and all I could think of was my latest T-Shirt: "When you're dead, you don't know it; It's only painful for others. It's the same way when you're stupid."
Then I remembered back to 1981ish when I was part of a detachment deployed from RAF Lakenheath to Rhein-Main AB to assist with security/crowd control for the mass of protests over the GLCM deployment...The cops from Hahn AB managed to set off a CS grenade in their bus. Yep, I guess Ole Forrest was right.

A soldier in my unit in Germany ‘lost’ his rifle while on a training mission! It took less than 24 hours to process his BCD!

This happened to our cops at Malmstrom AFB a few times. They also left a can of 40mm on the ground and inadvertently used it as a chock block.
AF isn't the only ones to do this. I know the Army has left M-16 out on their camp outs and had to spend hours looking for the "tree" it was leaning against. Saw it twice in Germany when we were teaching EOR.
There has to be memes for this crap by now!

SPC Nancy Greene - Its kind of funny but if there was a press release every time a piece of issued gear went missing we would amazed.
