Funny how the Air Force separated from the Army but still follow them like a puppy - I remember when we had the solid greens in the Air Force then changed to the Army BDU uniform around 1989. The Air Force Kept that uniform until about 2009 when they changed - now they are running behind the Army again.

I seem to recall at one point all of the services, including yours wore the same BDU until the Marines had to be different. Then everyone else decided to do their own thing. That took the damn thing from what used to be a $50 uniform for a full set to a $150 uniform for fatigues. To be honest we should all have the same one, because that would lower the cost, due to mass production. Its a purposeful uniform for expeditionary use, not meant to be a fashion statement. To be honest, no offense, but the Navy damn near copied the Marines with their current version. Yeah, you can argue its not exactly the same, but its obvious its inspired off of your sister service.

Lt Col (Join to see) If you really take a look at my history you will see that I have been in the Army, Air Force and Navy - I have worn the Army BDU, the Air Force Green Fatigue and later the adopted Army BDU and the Navy Type III uniform.
I made my comment from the Army/Air Force perspective as I left the Army wearing BDU's and went to the Air Force wearing the solid green fatigue with both short and long sleeve shirts (Which I actually liked to be honest) to the Air Force adopting the Army BDU's within 2 years of my changing services - As an Air Force person I noticed that even though the Air Force had separated from the Army they seemed to have a system of following right behind the Army when it came to copying their Fatigue/BDU uniforms; well that is except for the short lived blueish BDU's that were more like Pajamas than an actual working uniform.

I like the changes. I never liked the ABU. I hated losing squadron patches.
