Thanks for sharing an intriguing issue CW5 Jack Cardwell that special operators are "infighting" because Tech Sgt. John Chapman will be nominated posthumously after SEAL Britt Slabinski for the Medal of Honor. They both are being considered for the nation's highest honor because of the valor displayed in the 2002 Battle of Roberts Ridge in Afghanistan.
The seven-man reconnaissance team tasked with reaching a 10,469-foot peak, where his SEALs and an Air Force combat controller, Tech Sgt. John Chapman, could call in intelligence and direct air strikes.
On the one hand I can see the point that deceased member should be honored first. However for the good of the nation I think either
1. the living Medal of Honor recipient should be honored first; else
2. Both Tech Sgt. John Chapman and SEAL Britt Slabinski honored together - especially at the ceremony.

I vote for option 2 when the nominations are for the same incident. Too much politics creeping in to MOH awards, know it's always been a tough process but stick with facts and logic.

We will probably never know what really happened. However, IF Chapman was alive that whole time, it is a bad deal.

it outs the SEALS word against video footage. The SEAL appears to have been honestly mirage while under fire and made a honest mistake. Nob I dy on the Battle Field did anything evil, senior level scum are pretty obvously doing evil for intereview poltics. The guy under fire gets the benign of any doubt. The cold calculating SOB Blue Falcons in the Navy bureaucracy do not .

Having participated in the research and reporting of four incidents that led to awards of the MoH, I can easily see how conflict can arise in these cases. To be fair, once the decision is made to recommend a service member for the MoH, people like me are put to work to build the case/sell it. We become advocates much as prosecutors take cases against criminals to court and are disappointed if we fail to gain a conviction. In all honesty, I have always believed that of the four, only one I worked on deserved an MoH.
