Do something worthy of recognition. Wrote a retirement MSM a month ago for an individual with 25 years. He was enlisted and was a shirt. He commissioned and was on the O side for just about 10 years. You would think he had a few things to highlight. Nope. I did however use the example when talking with the junior enlisted later. Something like that shocks a doer, but great to utilize to speak to younger troops. Conversely, recognizing our followers is easy and the return is tremendous. Great thought to start the weekend Col. Hope all is well.

“A soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of coloured ribbon.”
“Give me enough medals and I’ll win you any war”

These two quotations by Napoleon Bonaparte always struck me as extremely revealing about recognition and motivation. "Recognition is the greatest motivator" by Gerard C. Eakedale exemplifies what Napoleon already knew!

Everybody is looking for validation, no matter who you are, and I think that's a need of the human condition - to look for affection or recognition or validation. Alejandro Inarritu
