There is the belief among media outlets they have some right to know, and disseminate, the details on everything the government is planning, or doing. They are wrong. Operational planning of military missions are none of their business. Such things are, by necessity, kept secret for as long as possible. The media gets their chance to second guess, and play arm chair general, after the fact. The same logic applies to high level diplomacy. Why would any administration divulge any information concerning strategy or agenda prior to the actual negotiations? All that does is enable your opponent to devise a strategy to counter your objectives.
There is a good chance that the president and his team will be in way over their heads in this area. There is also a good chance that any progress that may be made will be sabotaged through middle of the night tweets. But, the idea that the administration needs to provide the whole playbook to the media prior to the game is absurd.

If he put anything out in advance, his detractors might “tear it to shreds”. That’s one thing. IMHO. It might embolden the dictator to find “strength and support in unusual places”........

He did put something out. The "N. Korea has to take steps of denuclearization before any meeting takes place" is the official stance. Problem is no one knows what that even means, not even N. Korea. A meeting to discuss denuclearization that has a pre-requisite of conducting actions of denuclearization is ironic.

I think the “players” can figure it out. If it’s unconventional, so be it. It’s of little use to overly second- guess or wring hands yet. IMHO. Thing is, how did all the “proper diplomatic” methods, appeasement’s, and money shelled out work for us in the past? I don’t believe anything worked. We don’t need more of the same...... Not saying methods will NOW, either. I’m happy to wait and see; who knows how the mind of the Korean dictator works?

Well, the Daily KOS is skeptical, so maybe President Trump should just send them some planeloads of cash instead.
