It is a statistical impossibility that we are the only life in the universe. UniversES. In our galaxy alone (there are billions of galaxies) there are trillions and trillions of planets. Some few billion of them will be within their stars habitable zone (We're already finding them!). Some few thousands of those will have the further conditions for life. Some tens-to-hundreds of those will evolve basic life. Some few of those will evolve intelligent life. It is absolute hubris to think that we're the only life in the universe. Also, a mathematical impossibility.

Religion, you say? Creationism? Ok, fine. I can go for that. My argument stands. To think that God created ALL THAT out there for no other reason than for us to look at is pure hubris. No, if God created this universe, he populated it. Our inability to find those other populations in no way speaks to the presence of other life.

I firmly and unequivocally believe there's not just life out there, there's intelligent life. Having said that -- get this -- THAT DOES NOT MEAN WE'LL EVER MEET THEM. And it certainly doesn't mean we've ever been visited. The distances are so vast, and the physics so ironclad. Throw in the fact that there is nothing - absolutely NOTHING - in our solar system that can't be found in the asteroid belt of any other solar system, and you wind up with a likelihood of first contact that approaches zero. Which is a good thing. If they could get here, they'd have to have an energy source that defies all science as we know it. And 'energy source' is just another way of saying 'weapon'. So if they ever do show up before we ourselves can cross those distances, we'd best hope they're benevolent.

Also, consider the algae, I think, that lives in super hot pools in Yellowstone. The water is over 200 degrees.
