Thanks TSgt Joe C. for letting us know that on February 17, 1904 Giacomo Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly premiered at the La Scala theatre in Milan, Italy.

"The original version of the opera, in two acts, had its premiere on 17 February 1904 at Teatro alla Scala in Milan."

Not really a fan of opera, TSgt Joe C., but I have been to a performance of Madama Butterfly at my wife's insistence. It lasted forever and I considered it to be almost a tortuous event! Some of the arias are played frequently in movies. Most people (me included) don't know what they're hearing. One the arias in Madama Butterfly, "Un bel dì vedremo", is particularly beautiful and recognizable.
