I was stationed in Garlstedt which is halfway between Bremerhaven and Bremen near the town of Osterholz. We had half a Brigade of 2nd Armored Division, other half was at Ft. Hood. Russians hated having M1 tanks on the flat North German Plains because of their ability to blitzkrieg fast across Eastern Germany to the Polish border. So they monitored our post and convoys closely like the paranoid mafia they are..........whatever we did worried them. You could see them zipping in and out of our convoys taking notes. One time we did a rollout towards the East German border with our shoulder patches on our field jackets taped over and all identifying marks on the tracks taped up and that really freaked them out.....ha-ha. They had the advance halted via Military HQ before we got even half way there.
