wow, that is pathetic! I sure am glad I am no longer in because I would not want to be anywhere near a person that does not know how to properly handle and throw a grenade. We had a couple of females that couldn’t throw it over the wall barrier and the DIs ended up pulling themselves as well as the soldier out of the area with a quick yank and tackle to the ground. A piece of shrapnel flew back cut my BDU top and another piece hit and cut a girl’s face. OMG....never ever had I seen our DI so pissed off as he was that day. After that happened they shut down the live grenade range.
With these newbies coming in, they need to toughen up, they need the strength to throw grenades. If they don’t have the upper arm strength what happens to them in hand to hand combat or being able to carry their weapons and gear? do they think they are going to have a butler there to do it for them? It’s no longer Army Strong, it’s Army Wrong.

Yeah, during Basic at Ft. Dix in the summer of 75, I remember those bunkers having pitted walls and got me thinking, ok, John, focus and don't screw it up. was never good at throwing stuff but at least that time I got it done right and the DI was satisfied with my throw.

Can't they just make the grenades lighter? Issue a grenade slingshot to everyone.

What he asks for is simply impossible, and no the ability to throw a grenade a little farther AT BASIC will not translate into fewer casualties. I think this guy is just trying to justify his own arrogance.
