Great post. Interesting question. IF, I say IF, you could vote enough of them (pick a flavor, Libertarian?) in to make a difference. Sure. Could it happen? Sure. Will it happen? Not a snowballs chance in hell. Folks, on both sides, are so stuck on voting the party line, and we're talking some bat-shit crazy folks (The voters AND the votes in many cases! LOL), that they can't save themselves if it meant voting for a third party. My 2 cents!

AA Joseph Moody - Amen to that! Here is a good story about a gun owning, anti-abortion and church going Dem and you might enjoy it. Actually listening and representing his constituents. https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2018/01/11/terry-goodin-rural-democrats-indiana-216273
Heartland Democrats to Washington: You’re Killing Us
A new report blames an elitist national party for alienating vast swaths of once reliable voters. If the party doesn’t win them back, it could spell disaster in 2020.

TSgt David L. - Oddly they do, they just are doing what they have always done, and that is keeping silent. Something to keep in mind is the Left views those in the middle as Nazi's and the right views them as low key Liberals.

Susan Foster - I was helping a friend stitch together some video of news coverage of the election that you might like, when (and if) she publishes I'll have to let you know, but the gist of it was that even in the news there was more then a few comments on election strategy and the heartland being obsolete to politicians.

There are at least 47 different political parties in the United States, by this site:
http://www.politics1.com/parties.htm
What this country needs, if it wishes to have a "third political party", is to get behind one of these other parties and make that happen.
BUT...the people of this country DON'T really wish for this to happen, evidently, because they can't agree on anything together long enough to make that happen.
The existing major political party structure isn't some independent entity...it's an actual reflection of the general population as a whole. And, of course, the major political parties work to keep it that way.
Personally, I have a solution to the whole debacle of Congress not getting anything done...or, like the budget, getting it done anywhere NEAR on time.
Put me in charge.
If they would put me in charge, I know EXACTLY how I'd get Congress off it's collective *ss on things and get things done.
They involve computers and a key. And maybe pizza. Possibly water.
Pick a goal...like the federal budget.
I'll lock those b*stards in a room with the only key to the door lock in my possession. They have all the computer access they need to do their job, including access to resources outside the room.
They do not leave the room until a budget is passed. Not for food. Not for water. Not for bathroom breaks. Not for sleep. Not for showers. Not for medical assistance. NOTHING. I MIGHT slide some pizza under the locked door. MAYBE put a single, small water hose under the door.
When a viable budget is passed, THEN they can leave the room. Not before. (Have to qualify this, or the crotchfruits will just pass anything and call it a "budget" just to get out. Not playing that game.) How do I know it's viable? The President signs it OR he vetos it and Congress passes it by a 2/3 majority override.
When the sanitation conditions start causing some dysentery and whatnot, I'm betting "sh*t will get done"...one way or another. If we lose a few Congressmen along the way...so be it. I'll bet the ones we get to fill in their spots will be a bit more motivated to do their jobs when they see the rotting carcasses of those they are replacing being carried out of that room.
