Sgt Randy Wilber - Eventually everyone should get there, but it does take some time especially for people who grew up isolated from any racist activities.

MAJ (Join to see) - I do find it interesting that once again we have to have a discussion on toxic ideologies and how they don't match with the ideals of America that we have established for each other. When someone chucked a bottle at my family for exiting a movie theatre while in that area of Pennsylvania, I didn't stop to question whether it was racism or insensitivity. I simply filed it in the back of my mind and said "When in public, be VERY aware". You are absolutely right that this is not a political issue despite what the media says. This is a person-to-person conversation over time and only life experience can be an effective catalyst for change.

MAJ (Join to see) - As a rule I find that racists .. or at least the garden variety.. actually suffer from low self esteem. Their garden variety racism is passed along to their children and is reinforced by other low esteemed idiots in a sort of "me too" manner so that they can fit in with a group.
As a person who traveled the country and grew up in a "government" environment, moving around the country constantly, I saw it always from an outsiders perspective.
These garden variety racists tend to be uninteresting, low esteemed folks, although oddly enough covering a rather broad intellectual spectrum.
Bandwagon riding nerds mostly..
All racism is taught, or more accurately and commonly, learned... picked up like a regional accent of which the person is absolutely unaware.
Being a northerner... and of course Northerners are far more eloquent and well spoken than southern....

Racism is taught racial insensitivity is ignorance, or a miscommunication.

CDR (Join to see) Great Observation. That Explains My Perspective, I was Raised in an Urban/Suburban Environment.

I grew up in rural Indiana and while the area I grew up in did not have balatant racism, it was easy to see young people being easily swayed one political way or another just off of what parents and the community thought. Never actually thinking for themselves. There was some Klan activity in the area but amazingly they were generally not at all welcome.

I wish more people would leave their small rural towns and go live in urban environments for a while. See how others live. Once you do that then you can go back whatever environment you want.
