I am from Central NY. We were taught about the Iroquois Confederacy from Elementary School through High School. They, like their Native American brethren in other parts of the United States, never understood the duplicity of the white race. Native Americans believed that once an oath was given it was to be honored. That concept of honor was a central precept of their culture (regardless of tribal affiliation). Unfortunately that could not be said for the whites that they encountered and that is the tragedy that we, as a nation, can never erase.
