We had a very sad case at a hospital I worked at. A young women insisted she be sterilized. She was single and very young. The hospital refused. The young lady sued. Courts granted her right to be sterilized. The hospital was granted that the women be counseled by a psychologist, a minister and reproductive physician. Dispite the counseling she wanted to be sterilized. 5 years later she was married and wanted children. She was suing the hospital claiming they never should have been sterilized. Go figure! This reminds me of that episode.

IMV, when you are able to pay for it ... you are able to get it. Until then, too bad, so sad ... stick with that with which you were born. I feel much the same way about home ownership, cell phones, cars, and televisions.

Of all the arguments against this...

What is the mindset behind telling a fellow American that because they don't have money, they don't deserve medical treatment? Or, anything really?

Medical treatment for what, pray tell?

SGT Sean Goodrow - There is a significant difference between essential health care and elective care ... but you know that. People are routinely denied elective care all the time unless they can pay for it. That is compounded by the uncertainty in the diagnosis of whether someone is actually transgender ... which is further compounded by the age of the person in this instance.

Surgical reassignment is not reversible and a minor should not be permitted to make that decision. Like wise parents who WANT, not need, to precipitate the same, should for the same reasons, be prohibited.
